Wine Pit Stop
Today, I took a little time to myself and stopped by one of
my favorite wine bars/restaurants Zavino in University City Philadelphia. I
could not have asked for a better midday pick me up. My roommate Gooley and I
decided we were in much need of some downtime for ourselves, since this term is
coming to a close. Before we even arrived we already knew what we were going to
get. For me, a nice glass of red, and for her their ever-popular chocolate
mousse in the cutest of little mason jars.
I ended up indulging in the “Wine of the Moment”, which
happened to be the Pigro Rosso from Umbria, and oh was I a fan. Although, it
ended up being probably the most expensive wine on the menu that day it was
worth it. This moderate ruby red, smell of barnyard, and a little bit of the
taste too, I thoroughly enjoyed, because it was not too sharp or overbearing,
but a tasteful red to have on a chilly day.
Our little pit stop did us one better with our amazing
server, whose name I did not catch, but was intrigued to hear about my food
blogging class and told us about a food blogging idea him and his buddy cooked
up, to find the best chicken and waffles in Philly. He also told me of wine
pairings that they offer with their wine of the moment, which I will ultimately
be trying next.
10 out of 10 would highly recommend if you are ever in the
Philadelphia area, there are a few locations, so you do not have to
specifically visit this one, but would suggest you do. The atmosphere was cozy
and modern, the food from my visits before is always sensational, and the
servers/bartenders are extremely helpful and really make you feel at home. So
whether it is a glass of wine you need for a mid-day pick me up, a little glass
of chocolate mousse to encourage you to get through those late night studies,
or simply a warm welcoming environment, this is the place to be.
