About Me
My name is Grace DiSimoni, and I love me a fine wine. I am a senior at Drexel University majoring in Hospitality Management, so hotels, events, food and beverage, the works. Being in the major I am in of course I am around wine a lot considering most of the time where there’s food there’s wine and/or beer. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy a good IPA every now and then, but wine has always had a special place in my heart. If my last name doesn’t give it away I am Italian, by blood, “five eigths”, my father likes to tell me. Other than the name, I studied abroad in Rome, Italy my sophomore year of college, and could not get enough of the stuff. However, when you can get a bottle for a euro off the shelf of your corner grocery store at nineteen, how can you blame me.
From those three months of endless eating and drinking, I really began to appreciate the differences in wines rather than the alcohol content. By difference I mean the flavors in the wine; pear, apple, citrus, dark berries, dirt, green pepper, fig. I also became aware of the regions that some wines were specific to like Brunello di Montalcino from Tuscany, or Prosecco from Veneto. From this appreciation came more drinking, but it’s all for learning purposes right?
So why am I here you may ask, I am here because I love wine, and if you do as well then you’ve come to the right place because I’m going to go through all of it (hopefully). While trying new wines, and/or revisiting old favorites, I also plan to try some of my favorite cheeses with wines I believe will go well (hopefully), and provide some how-to meal pairings on a college budget. I will also introduce you to the people I drink with and the places we drink. I aim to try as many wine pairings as I can, good and bad, known and unknown, and share with those who are as intrigued as I am to see where all this drinking is going to take me.
